Since its inception in 2003, EEEF has provided financial and other forms of support for three schools in Dembi, Dollo, a rural market town in western Ethiopia:
These educational institutions are at the heart of effecting change in western Ethiopia. They are located in the western highlands in Dembi Dollo (formerly Sayo) in the Oromia Region near Sudan.
Education at BYES, BESS, and GTC is not government funded. Of the worthy prospective students who pass rigorous exams to qualify for entrance, many cannot afford the tuition to attend. Young people receiving an education from any one of these institutions offer much hope for change in a community and country that continues to experience the oppression of poverty in an uncertain existence. And, in an ever-growing Ethiopian Christian population the need for quality education intensifies in Dembi Dollo and throughout the country.
Ethiopia Education Endowment Fund recognizes that these bright students, and many who cannot yet enroll in school, must continue their education, not only to break the cycle of poverty, but to become educators, health care specialists, business persons, skilled workers, and other professionals for a prosperous economic future.
